When Should You Be Sexually Intimate While Dating

Intimacy can be exceptionally complicated if you’re sexually active with someone too soon. Although there is a great deal of physical pleasure that can be derived from an intimate encounter, it can also be one of the most emotionally charged experiences of life. Being intimate with someone too soon can lead to a whole new list of problems. What if you’re afraid that chastity could chase off potential mates? Then you need to realize that those who avoid you because you’re not sexually active are more than likely not worthy of your heart to begin with.

The Emotional Bonds of Sex
While some people can have a more cavalier approach to sex, a large portion of humanity can become emotionally bound to the person through intimacy. Even if you’re one of those women who don’t view sex as an emotional anchor, the person you’re in bed with might. It’s a powerful connection that can be formed, and you don’t want to give yourself lightly if you don’t know how the other person is going to react afterward.

It’s OK to Wait
Someone who is interested in you will wait until you’re ready for sex. Besides, there are many ways you can be intimate without the clothes coming off. Even something as simple as holding hands can be viewed as intimacy. If someone doesn’t want to be with you because you’re not ready, then that is an identifier of how the person may be throughout the relationship – impatient and selfish. A relationship will have a large degree of moments where patience is needed, and someone willing to jump ship because of their own selfish needs isn’t worth a second thought.

Beware of Teasing an Encounter
Physical touch can be misconstrued as a sexual encounter depending on how far it goes. If you’re not ready to be this close to someone, then you need to make sure that you don’t take the situation too far. When the hormones are racing and the adrenalin is pumping, it can be difficult for many people to put on the brakes because you’re not ready. It’s human nature to procreate, and it can be incredibly frustrating for the other party if you say “no” once the moment comes to a certain point. The best thing to do is take physical contact slowly until you’re ready for that next step.

Never be afraid of making someone wait. If they are interested in knowing you as a person, the individual you’re dating will abide by your wishes. For a large portion of the human species, sex is an introduction to a much deeper relationship. It should be approached with care for it can cause a great deal of emotional pain if both parties don’t feel the same way. Trust your instincts – you’ll know when the time is right.
